Retail Industry
Retail labelling solutions are available for a wide variety of products — food, hardware, apparel, housewares, crafts and gardening supplies — ensuring clarity and traceability at point of sale. Barcodes must scan reliably first time, every time, across every checkout and every store in the network.
Common labelling challenges in retail
- High SKU volumes mean labels are often printed in-house or by multiple sites, requiring consistent barcode quality regardless of location.
- Paper price tags and swing tags need clean, low-cost printing that still scans reliably at the till.
- Garment and textile labels (woven, satin or synthetic care labels) require ribbons formulated for non-paper materials.
- Promotional and seasonal relabelling creates spikes in print volume, so ribbon supply and cost efficiency matter.
Choosing the right ribbon formulation
For standard coated-paper price tags and shelf labels, an economical wax ribbon is usually sufficient — it prints quickly and scans reliably in typical indoor retail handling. For synthetic swing tags, woven garment labels or care labels that face washing, folding and repeated handling, a resin ribbon is required for the abrasion and wash resistance those materials demand. A wax-resin grade sits in between, suited to coated tags that need extra scuff resistance during transport and shelf display.
See our thermal transfer ribbon page for the full comparison of wax, wax-resin and resin grades.
